Why Water

Why we do, what we do.

WHY WATER?

Water is an astonishingly complex and subtle force in an economy. Its the single constraint on the expansion of every city, and bankers and corporate executives have citied it, as the only natural limit of economic growth.
— Margaret Chatley-Carlson, Vice-Chair, World-Economic-Forum

Health

Six thousand deahts occur every day from unsafe water and poor sanitation. Ninety percent are children, five years old and under. The vast majority of those deaths could be prevented with clean water, improved sanitation and hygiene training.

ECONOMY

There is an estimated economic loss of 28.4 billion dollars anually in Africa due to a lack of access to clean water and basic sanitation. Nearly half of sub-Saharan Africa lives below the poverty line if $1.25 per day.

The World Health Organization estimates a ROI of $3-$34 per $1 invested in water and sanitation. The ROI varies depending on the region and technology.

Other students miss school to take care of family members die to water born disease. Even the lucky students who are able to attend on a regular basis are severely limited in their capitivity to learn because of their own health battles due to unclean water.
